THANK YOU and WHAT’S NEXT????
I lost the election for House District 39 last night, and frankly that sucks. But, give me a few days and I’ll be ready to talk about WHAT’S NEXT - - how will we continue to participate in democracy in our county and house district and judicial district and state and country?
Our sacred obligation, as residents in the U.S., is to participate. Not just every four years, but every single blasted day and in many ways. What a small thing that is in comparison to the benefits that we earn as residents in the U.S. - - comparative safety within our borders, comparative safety in our homes, relatively decent access to clean water, relatively effective protection for the land and our fellow animal and insect and even tinier residents, opportunities to have our voices heard and protected under our Constitution (OUR Constitution!), increasingly available healthcare for all, relatively decent resources for the people who are aging or disabled in some sense, decent interstate travel networks, access to public education for a relatively long span of human childhood. What a small thing, to work a little bit every day for those benefits of membership in the U.S. and Colorado.
Thank you so much to all the good folks who contributed time, emotional support or dollars to this little campaign in an area where a win wasn’t likely but where none of us ever forgot that the impossible CAN become possible - - and it will become reality, sooner than we all think. I look forward to the day when Douglas and Teller Counties have truly representative government, with Dems & unaffiliateds & Libertarians & Greens in proportionate presences in elected positions. The temporary tensions and conflicts that would arise will resolve into the most excellent of solutions - - that’s what happens when you consider and incorporate all viewpoints and needs. Can’t wait - - gonna help to make it real.
When it comes down to it, I love policy and public policy analysis and tough conversations that actually lead to terrific outcomes and well-motivated people of all flavors and taking the time to do stuff right and fighting the good frickin’ fight. So I’m going to continue to fight the good frickin’ fight - - WHO’S WITH ME???!!!!!!!
